Second gold for super sprinter Sarah Lee at Asian Championships
Hong Kong ace cyclist doubles her gold medal tally after winning the women’s sprint to add to the 500-metre time trial title she won on Tuesday in New Dehli
Hong Kong cycling ace Sarah Lee Wai-sze claimed her second gold medal at the Asian Championships as she showed her prowess this time in the women’s sprint in New Delhi on Thursday.
The London Olympics bronze medallist was in a class of her own even though she didn’t have to face the challenge of her mainland rivals, winning through to the quarter-finals by 2-0 margins in each of her best-of-three ties.
The 29 year-old, who also won the 500-metre time trial on Tuesday, will be aiming for a treble of gold medals as she makes her start in the keirin on Friday.
In the women’s omnium, Meng Zhaojuan finished with a bronze medal after the Olympic class programme changed to a new format, while Diao Xiaojuan also came back with a third-place medal in the women’s scratch race to complete a good medal haul for Hong Kong on Thursday.
Meng will be joined by Pang Yao in the madison on Friday, while in the men’ s madison, Leung Chun-wing will pair up with Miu Ching-yin rather than his regular partner, Olympian Cheung King-lok who has been struggling with form since the Rio Summer Games. Leung and Cheung won the madison event for two years running at the 2014 and 2015 Asian Championships.
