Ng On-yee reaches main draw of World Championship with minimum of fuss
Hong Kong star wins all three of her pool games in Singapore to remain undefeated as she seeks a second world title after her historic victory in 2015
Ng On-yee sounded an ominous warning to her rivals after the Hong Kong star cruised into the World Championship knockout stage in Singapore with the minimum of fuss on Wednesday.
Two years after making headlines by lifting the world title in a Hong Kong first, the 26-year-old Ng must be feeling confident of a second title after winning all three of her pool games to remain undefeated.
The 2015 world champion ended the day with an unblemished record with three straight wins, including a 4-1 victory over India’s Chitra Magimairaj, champion of the seniors competition at the 2016 World Championship, on Wednesday.
Ranked number two in the world, Ng also beat Singaporean number one Charlene Chai (4-1) and Ireland’s Ronda Sheldreck (5-0) in the same stage.
Two years ago, Ng became the first world champion from Asia when she beat England’s Emma Bonney 6-2 in the final. She stunned then ten-time world champion Reanne Evans of England in the semis.
