Olympian Tiffany Chan to join professional ranks ahead of Hong Kong Ladies Open title defence

The 23-year-old will return to Hong Kong Golf Club for the June 9-11 tournament following a whirlwind 12 months

Hong Kong Olympian Tiffany Chan Tsz-ching will make her professional debut in defence of her Hong Kong Ladies Open title in June at Hong Kong Golf Club.

The 23-year-old will round out her amateur career at the end of May playing for the University of Southern California before returning home for the June 9-11 event which will be played over the Old Course at Fanling.

Chan has enjoyed a whirlwind 12 months since last year’s play-off victory over Thailand’s Kanphanitnan Muangkhumsakul as she represented Hong Kong at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

“I am very excited to be defending my title and the Hong Kong Ladies Open is going to be my first professional event after turning pro, so I might have a bit more pressure than I did last year as I was playing as an amateur,” said Chan.

She will become Hong Kong’s first female professional golfer since Joann Hardwick, who enjoyed success in her 20s competing on the Asian women’s circuit.

Chan failed to qualify for the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour this year after falling short in Q School, but did enough to earn a card on the second-tier Symetra Tour. She is set to make her debut at the Decatur-Forsyth Classic in Illinois the week after competing in Hong Kong.
