Hong Kong’s Tiffany Chan back on track in US with first round 71

Olympian returns to the Symetra Tour at this week’s Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic having missed her first cut as a professional last time out

Hong Kong Olympian Tiffany Chan Tsz-ching got her Symetra Tour campaign back on track with a opening round of one-under-par 71 at the weather-hit US$150,000 Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic in Rochester, New York.

Chan missed the first cut of her professional last time out at the Donald Ross Centennial Classic, but after the tour took a week off, the 23-year-old returned to action at Brook Lea Country Club with two birdies and a bogey.

With around half the field yet to complete their opening rounds after play was suspended because of darkness following an earlier break for rain and lightning, Chan sits tied for 38th, with Denmark’s Nanna Koerstz Madsen’s the clubhouse lead at six-under-par.

Chan is 27th on the Symetra Tour order of merit with US$17,025 from her four events, with another eight events remaining after this week as she chases a top-10 finish to earn a card on the LPGA Tour next season.
