Hong Kong’s Ng On-yee regains world 6 reds snooker title
Hong Kong ace regains the 6 reds amateur title for the first time since 2015 for her third championship in five years
Two weeks after being handed a lesson by snooker legends Jimmy White and Stephen Hendry, Hong Kong’s Ng On-yee returned to winning ways, regaining the IBSF women’s world 6 reds title in Hurghada, Egypt.
The Hong Kong star was unable to strike a blow against her older and much more experienced male counterparts in exhibition matches at the Hong Kong Masters last month.
But back against the girls, she was in a league of her own, defeating Siripaporn Nuanthakhamjan of Thailand 4-0 in the Egypt final
The 26-year-old Hong Kong ace and Siripaporn have been dominating the last five editions of the world 6 reds championship and it was Ng’s turn to lift the trophy having won it in 2013 and 2015.
“Siripaporn was the defending champion so I think there was a bit of pressure on her. I played well. I was confident coming into the final after winning my semi-finals against [Hong Kong’s] Wan Ka-kei.
“I was a bit nervous in that semi-final because it was a bit strange to play against a teammate. I had to correct my body movement and went back to the practice table and then got into the final,” she said.
Ng was never seriously troubled by her Thai opponent in the final, taking a 3-0 lead thanks to a 30 clearance and although Siripaporn tried to come back in the fourth frame, she fell short as Ng potted the last pink and black to win the title.
