Carrie Lam attends flag ceremony for Hong Kong delegation to National Games
Hong Kong to send biggest-ever squad of 240 athletes to the Tianjin Games
A flag presentation ceremony was held on Thursday at the Cultural Centre for Hong Kong’s 240 athletes who will be taking part in the National Games in Tianjin on August 27 to September 8.
Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor took part in the ceremony in Tsim Sha Tsui where she greeted some of the athletes. The ceremony was also attended by Timothy Fok Chun-tsing, president of the Hong Kong Olympic Committee.
The biggest-ever squad to the Games will take part in 21 sports after capturing seven medals at the last event held in Shenyang four years ago.
Hong Kong first joined the Games in Shanghai in 1997, just two months after the handover.
Cycling has been Hong Kong’s most successful sport so far, thanks to the achievements of some world-class riders Wong Kam-po and Sarah Lee Wai-sze.
