Hong Kong’s Ng On-yee surrenders Paul Hunter Women’s Classic title to Reanne Evans in Germany
World number one posts 4-1 win in the final to claim her second title of the year
Evans claimed the first frame following a break of 59 in Nuremberg before doubling her lead in the best-of-seven-frame final.
World number two and defending champion Ng hit back by claiming a tight third frame, but Evans crucially claimed the key fourth frame albeit in somewhat fortunate circumstances.
Evans, who posted top breaks of 67, 59, 58 during the knockout stage compared to a highest of 47 from world number two Ng after both top-ranked players were not required to compete in the group stage, was trailing 49-35 and with only the final two balls left on the table and needing a snooker.
But following a battle of wits, Evans finally wore Ng down after the Hong Kong ace had missed a long pot which would have secured the frame.
Evans still needed a slice of luck to seal the win as she missed a seemingly regulation corner pot on the black only to see the ball roll along the back cushion and into the opposite corner.
And with a 3-1 lead, Evans secured the win after dominating the fifth frame as the Masters champion claimed her second title of the year and first in Germany after losing last year’s final to Ng.
