Hong Kong duo claims bronze medal in Ashgabat after defeat to eventual winners

Hong Kong pair go down to top seeds in closely fought semi-final clash

The Hong Kong duo of Kevin Wong Chun-hun and Jack Wong Hong-kit will return home from the Asian Indoor Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan with a bronze medal after they went down to the top- seeded Indians in the men’s doubles semi-final.

The pair lost out to eventual champions Vishnu Vardhan and Vijay Prashanth of India 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the semis but secured a third-place finish at the Games.

The relatively inexperienced 21-year-old Chun-hun and 19-year-old Hong-kit gave a good account of themselves but were eventually overpowered by the older pair.

The silver medal was claimed by the Kazakhstan duo of Timur Khabibulin and Denis Yevseyev who beat Thailand in their semi-final clash.

Chun-hun and Hong-kit’s efforts yielded Hong Kong’s only tennis medal at the Games, with Katherine Ip eliminated in the first round of her singles campaign, and the mixed doubles duo of Ip and Hong-kit losing out in the quarter-finals.
