Hong Kong snooker star Ng On-yee rediscovers her touch to win third UK Championship
Asian Indoor Games disappointment forgotten as Ng proves too strong for world number one Reanne Evan
Hong Kong’s Ng On-yee shrugged off a disappointing four weeks to win her third UK Women’s Championship, beating world number one Reanne Evans of England 4-1 in the final.
Ng had lost to Evans 4-1 in the Paul Hunter Women’s Classic in Germany last month and was favoured to win gold at the Asian Indoor Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, but was beaten in the semi-finals and had to settle for a bronze medal
“I am absolutely over the moon,” said Ng, the reigning world champion who also won the title in 2013 and 2015.
“Last week at the Asian Indoor Games I didn’t play very well so I did not have any expectations, but since I arrived [in England]I have been able to practise and have been getting better.
In the Challenge Cup for players who did not qualify for the quarter-finals, Hong Kong’s Ho Yee-ki, who was beaten by Ng in the last 16, defeated Emma Parker 2-1 in the final match of the day.
