Inspiring Hong Kong talent – Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara returns to T20 Blitz

Former test player will line up for Galaxy Gladiators Lantau in the third edition of the tournament

Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara is returning to the Hong Kong T20 Blitz and hoping he can once again inspire local talent when he lines up for Galaxy Gladiators Lantau in February.

Sangakkara, who amassed 12,400 test runs and more than 14,200 in ODIs, was there to provide a guiding hand to Hong Kong’s Anshuman Rath at last year’s Blitz as the pair forged a friendship that continued beyond the local tournament.

Rath, one of Hong Kong’s top batsmen, will this year play for City Kaitak but the former Sri Lanka skipper and wicketkeeper will have ample support from a talented local squad strengthened by other foreign players.

“I loved the previous season of the Blitz, and cannot wait to represent Gladiators for the second time running. I’m super excited to get back with the team,” said Sangakkara.

“I loved the Hong Kong experience and vibe and to come again and play with the home-grown talent in front of such enthusiastic supporters is something I am looking forward to.”

Gladiators finished last in the standings in 2017 with one victory from their four matches and the team will be hoping for an improved performance this time.

Also taking part in the February 6-11 tournament are defending champions Kowloon Cantons, City Kaitak, Hung Hong JD Jaguars and Hong Kong Island United.
