Hong Kong goes for gold in the pool, on the lake and in the saddle

Asian Games: Hong Kong schedule – what events are happening in Indonesia on day five?

Hong Kong goes for gold in the pool, on the lake and in the saddle

Hong Kong’s search for a first Asian Games gold goes on and there are several great opportunities for metal today.

Equestrian probably represents the best of those chances, but there are potential medals in rowing and swimming to be had too, amongst others.

Equestrian

Hong Kong’s Jacqueline Siu Wing-ying goes for gold this morning on her horse Jockey Club Fuerst on Tour in the final round of the dressage event, the intermediate I freestyle. Siu says it’s her (and the horse’s) favourite event and hopes are high that she can deliver a first Asian Games equestrian gold for Hong Kong at Jakarta International Equestrian Park.

Football

It’s a very tall order for Kenneth Kwok’s young team to go one better than before and reach the quarter-finals of the football event here in Indonesia. A disappointing loss to the hoists earlier this week saw his team paired with the reigning Asian under-23 champions Uzbekistan in the last-16. Hong Kong will have to put that loss behind them and get back to their best to stand any chance at Wibawa Mukti Stadium.

Golf

Matthew Cheung is among the four Hong Kong men in action as the golf gets underway in Indonesia this morning. Both the men’s and women’s individual and team events kick off with the Hong Kong team considered bona fide dark horses for a podium spot.

Rowing

Chan Chi-fung goes in the men’s single sculls final, while Lam San-tung, Tang Chiu-mang, Leung Chun-shek and Wong Wai-kin are in the lightweight men’s four final.

Swimming

There’s a host more Hong Kong swimmers in action today. Highlights include Rainbow Ip and Yvette Kong Man-yi in the women’s 50-metre breaststroke, Kenneth To King-him in the men’s 100m freestyle and Hong Kong’s women in the 4x100m medley relay.

Squash

Max Lee Ho-yin begins his squash campaign alongside Au Chun-ming this morning. The draw is yet to be made but Lee represents another of Hong Kong’s brightest medal hopes in Indonesia.
