Social media post show King’s Park among sports grounds flooded as river breaks bank and sea waters swell with Hong Kong battered by storm
Super Typhoon Mangkhut has hit Hong Kong and the decision to cancel the racing at Sha Tin and all football has been vindicated.
The Kitchee Hong Kong Jockey Club training centre in Shek Mun O has been ravaged by storm damage, while the Siu Sai Wan Sports Centre is underwater.
Kitchee, who were meant to play R&F in the Hong Kong Premier League at Mong Kok Stadium today, will need to rethink their preparations for their upcoming matches based on the images and video being shared on social media.
The training centre, which opened in 2012 at a cost of HK$84 million between Kitchee and the Hong Kong Jockey Club, has been flooded after the neighbouring river broke its banks. There is sand on the pitch.
The Siu Sai Wan stadium is also flooded, as it was during storms last year. Video shows its roof being buffeted by winds.
WhatsApp messages also showed King’s Park was affected with the goals tipped over from strong winds.
