World number one Ng On-yee claimed the inaugural Australian Open title in Sydney on Sunday when she defeated fellow Hongkonger Katrina Wan 4-2 courtesy of two decisive 50-plus breaks.

Ng’s experience told down the home straight and the 27-year-old notched up breaks of 66 and 55 on the way to her second title of the season.

The reigning world champion won the UK Women’s Championship last month.

She currently sits clear of England’s Reanne Evans at the top of the women’s rankings.

Wan produced a Herculean effort to reach the final in Sydney overcoming Evans 4-3 in the semi-finals to reach a first ranking final of her career. But Ng, who registered a career-best 139 break in her own semi-final victory against emerging Thai star Nutcharut Wongharuthai, had too much for the 30-year-old.
