Former Premier League manager Ian Holloway revealed on Sunday that he had been approached about taking over the vacant Hong Kong national team manager’s job.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ “Goals on Sunday”, the former Leicester, Blackpool and Crystal Palace boss said he had been approached through a third-party about potentially taking over the role vacated by Gary White last December.
The 55-year-old would represent something of a coup for the Hong Kong Football Association given his reputation built over a number of years managing at the top level of the English game.

Most recently Holloway was in charge of Championship club QPR but left the role in May last year.

For his part, Holloway expressed an interest in the post joking: “Imagine how good the food would be.

“I had a bit of a weird call the other day [to become the new Hong Kong manager] ... whether I’ll get it or not, I don’t know,” Holloway said.

The informal-sounding nature of the approach would suggest it is far from a done deal, however, Hong Kong supporters will take heart from the fact that the HKFA is aiming high in recruiting a replacement for White, who left suddenly in December to take over as manager of Tokyo Verdy in the J2 League.
