Viu TV will show some Euro 2020 matches for free after Now TV secures live broadcasts rights for Hong Kong
- All 51 matches from 2020 Uefa European Championship to be broadcast live on Now TV in Hong Kong
- Free-to-air channel Viu TV will get some games with kick-off times friendly for Hong Kong fans again
Hong Kong football fans will be able to watch some matches for free from next summer’s Uefa European Championship after Now TV announced it has secured the exclusive broadcasting rights for the 2020 event.
Local pay-television operator Now TV said all 51 matches will be broadcast live on its sports channels, and also through Now E, its “one-stop OTT entertainment platform”.
Some of the matches will also be able to watch live through Viu TV, a free-to-air channel on the PCCW service. The Euro 2020 draw for the 24 finalists will be made in November and more details including kick-off times will be disclosed later by Now TV, which used a similar method to broadcast some free matches from the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.
Considered by fans as the second most popular international football tournament after the World Cup, Euro 2020 will feature 24 teams for the second time in the competition’s history.
Held across 12 European cities as a “romantic” celebration of the competition’s 60th “birthday” from June 12 to July 12, Hong Kong fans will not have to stay up too late for all the matches either – Azerbaijan capital Baku has the smallest time difference of four hours behind Hong Kong.
