Manchester City name squad for Asia Tour but it’s missing several notable names
- EPL champions got off to a disastrous start when their flight to China was cancelled on Saturday
- Club has left out four South American stars who were involved in the Copa America campaign
English Premier League champions Manchester City have named their squad for their preseason Asia tour that includes an exhibition match against Kitchee – but it’s missing several notable names.
Pep Guardiola’s men will play the local outfit on July 24 at the Hong Kong Stadium, the third leg of an Asia tour that include stopovers in Nanjing, Shanghai and Japan.
While the champions will include £62.8 million (US$80 million) new signing Rodri in Asia as well as Angelino, who has returned to the club after the club activated his buy-back clause with PSV Eindhoven, the Citizens have not included Brazilians Ederson, Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus as well as Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero because they are resting after Copa America duty last week.
The team will also be missing Algerian midfielder Riyad Mahrez who is still involved in the Africa Cup of Nations, but Phil Foden will join his teammates in Hong Kong – making it a 27-man squad – after coming back from his holidays and representing the England under-21 side.
City got off to a disastrous start on Saturday when their flight to China was cancelled because of an “administration error” according to the club’s website.
The club said on social media that they will travel to Asia “a little later than intended”.
