Hong Kong take on Iran on September 10 in the first home game of the Fifa World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign.
Now that the game has been confirmed as going ahead at Hong Kong Stadium, we can concentrate on the football.
The visit of the best team in Asia – Team Melli are 23rd on the Fifa World Rankings, 10 places ahead of Japan and 14 ahead of South Korea – presents a daunting task for the hosts. Hong Kong are ranked 139.
But the Hong Kong team have shown their steel in the face of adversity before. They recorded two 0-0 draws – home and away – against China in the last World Cup qualifying campaign.

The question on everyone’s lips is can they hold Iran?
You can find out by going to the game. Tickets are on sale for the big match at Hong Kong Stadium on Tuesday, September 10.


They are priced at HK$150-180, with a number of concessionary tickets for seniors and students at HK$30. Tickets for the game can be bought from the HKFA’s ticketing partner Cityline.
Fans can also purchase a package for all four home games – Iran (September 10), Bahrain (November 11), Cambodia (November 19) and Iraq (March 31, 2020) – for HK$600 (HK$120 for concessions).
For those who cannot get to the match, Now TV is showing it live on Now Sports 3 (channel 633). The broadcast starts at 7.45pm, with kick-off at 8pm.
