Sarah Lee Wai-sze’s supremacy in the women’s sprint continued with another victory in the opening round of the World Cup series on Sunday morning (Hong Kong time) ahead of next year’s Tokyo Olympics.

At the same Minsk Arena velodrome in Belarus where she clinched her first world title in 2013, Lee made no mistakes from the beginning to the final, where she overwhelmed Anastasia Voynova of Russia 2-0 in the best-of-three tie for the gold medal.

Lee extends her World Cup record to five wins in five appearances since Olympic qualification began last year. In between, she also lifted the World title in Poland in March and two Asian Championships titles.

Her latest victory, coupled with Jessica Lee Hoi-yan’s 17th place in Minsk, put Hong Kong into the lead in the Tokyo 2020 qualification rankings, overtaking Australia who did not send any riders to Belarus.

Lee defeated Australia’s Stephanie Morton when they met in the first two World Cup rounds of last season.
