No Plan B if the government decides not to fund us, says HKFA boss Pui Kwan-kay
- Association to discuss with government’s Football Task Force on a new five-year plan this week
- Plan renewal delayed for three months because of the coronavirus pandemic

Hong Kong Football Association chairman Pui Kwan-kay has warned there’s no Plan B if they do not acquire the needed funding from the government to assure their survival over the next five years.
Following three public hearings by Legco’s Public Accounts Committee, which accused the association of lack of governance and administration malpractice, there is a real danger the local football governing body might not receive the funding – a privilege they have enjoyed for almost a decade.
The Home Affairs Bureau, through the Arts and Sport Development Fund, injects HK$25 million a year for the association to implement its five-year strategic plan, which ended in March but was pushed back by three months because of the pandemic outbreak.

Pui remained upbeat in his hopes for more funding despite the governing body coming in for stinging criticism in recent weeks.
“We don’t have a Plan B if the government stops funding us for the next five years,” said Pui. “We will be meeting the Football Task Force this week and hopefully we can resolve all the problems.
