Hong Kong’s Wong Chun-ting and Doo Hoi-kem to compete in revamped World Cup as table tennis returns to action in November
- China will stage three Restart tournaments for the remainder of the year, including the 2020 Finals
- Head coach Chan Kong-wah is eager to send players overseas for competition after an enforced break due to the pandemic

Itching to return to action as quickly as possible, Hong Kong coach Chan Kong-wah says he will allow charges Doo Hoi-kem and Wong Chun-ting to take part in the revamped World Cup in China in November – the pair’s first competition since March.
The Hong Kong duo last competed at the Qatar Open six months ago but like thousands of athletes they have been forced to wait it out as the pandemic wreaked havoc on world sport.
Chan is hopeful the city’s top players can eventually return to competition after getting an invitation to compete at the World Cup, which will be held in China with the venue yet to be announced.
Named under the Restart series, three tournaments have been proposed for the rest of the year by the world governing body, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), delivering a return to international activity with the women’s World Cup, men’s World Cup and the 2020 Finals – all scheduled to take place on the mainland.
With world rankings suspended since April, players will be able to earn points at the three events.
