The 23-year-old fly-half, who last month joined Borrelli Walsh USRC Tigers RFC ahead of the Hong Kong Premiership 2020/21 season, explained that he is already eligible to represent Hong Kong thanks to his family background.

“My mother and her sisters were born here. My grandfather – who I unfortunately never met – was also born and raised here until moving to Scotland with my grandmother,” said former Scotland under-19s and under-20s international Henderson. “My mum’s buzzing about it because now I can stay in contact with my aunties. She’s already given me some cool things to see.”

With an already enviable national team and club portfolio – he has also featured for Glasgow Warriors, Stade Nicois, London Scottish, Stirling County and the Scotland sevens team – Kirkcaldy-born Henderson envisions a successful campaign with the Tigers that will open the door to a first Hong Kong cap.

“Obviously, growing up I wanted to play for Scotland, but sometimes life takes you in different directions. I’m looking at it in a way like I played for Scotland U20s and represented my Scottish family. Now I can represent my Hong Kong heritage and hopefully an opportunity comes my way. That’s what I’m here to do,” Henderson said, adding that his priority is to “do well as a 10 with the Tigers”.
