Ng On-yee eager for world circuit return after overcoming nerves to win the Hong Kong Women’s Open title
- It was the former world number one’s first competitive tournament since winning the Belgium Open in February
- Ng says the ninth-month break between tournaments made her nervous but she was still able to dominate her opponent

Ng On-yee is hoping for a quick return to the international circuit after Hong Kong’s former world number one made a winning return to competition after nine months.
The three-time world champion shrugged off the rust and nerves that have built up during Covid-19-enforced inactivity to beat teammate Cheung Yee-ting 4-0 in the final of the Hong Kong Women’s Open on Saturday at the Legend Snooker Club in Cheung Sha Wan.
The 29-year-old confirmed her status as the city’s top player but is frustrated at the lack of tournaments on the women’s world tour because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“It was good to play a tournament after nine months,” said Ng, who had breaks of 66, 51 and 49 during her victory. “The last time I played was in Belgium and I haven’t played competitively since then, so I was very nervous before this tournament.

“During practice I felt that I was getting my form back and I was improving. I spent a lot of time watching videos of professional tournaments but still I felt so nervous.
