Hong Kong harbour an ‘ideal venue’ to stage top-class air racing with revived world championship to launch in 2022

Hong Kong’s world-famous harbour, skyline and aviation history would make it an ideal city to stage a leg of the revived World Championship Air Race (WCAR) series, which is expected to start around February next year.
Race Series Director Willie Cruickshank said organisers of the series – which is rebranding and reimagining the previous Red Bull incarnation that ended in 2018 – said none of the host cities have yet to be confirmed.
“Officially, we are not able to release where we will be racing in 2022 but I can say that Hong Kong is exactly the sort of city we’ll be looking to race in,” Cruickshank told the Post.
“We look for cities that have iconic skylines, somewhere that has an open water space. Ideally our tracks are flown on water but we can do that on coastal waters, on lakes, on rivers or on land.
“And Hong Kong, with its decades of history as an aviation hub and centre, would be an ideal place for us. We would very, very happily race in Hong Kong.”
