Hong Kong makes snooker history with Ng On-yee set to become first Asian women to play on the World Tour
- World Snooker says three-time world champion Ng and reigning champion Reanne Evans, of England, are offered places in the 2021/22 season
- The pair will be able to take on the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins, Judd Trump and Ding Junhui at the big main tour events

Hong Kong’s Ng On-yee made history on Monday by becoming the first Asian women to be given a card on the professional World Snooker Tour from the start of next season.
Governing body World Snooker announced on Monday that three-time world champion Ng and women’s snooker legend Reanne Evans would be given the chance to turn professional for the start of the 2021-22 season.
It means Ng can play in any of the big snooker tournaments normally dominated by the top male players such as Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins, Judd Trump and China’s Ding Junhui, with Hong Kong’s Marco Fu Ka-chun also part of the tour.
“This is absolutely a dream come true,” Ng, who has been largely inactive over the past year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, told the Post. “Especially after a quiet year without much travelling and practising for me. I totally didn’t expect this coming and hopefully the borders can open in time after the summer.”
Twelve-time reigning women’s world champion Evans, of England, and Ng have been among the dominant players on the women’s tour over the past few years.
