Hong Kong’s men’s team opened their World Rugby Sevens Repechage account with a convincing 31-5 win over Jamaica.
Paul John’s side showed no signs of pitch rust despite more than a year and a half out, outclassing their pool B opponents in Monaco’s Stade Louis II and keeping their dreams of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualification well on track.
Salom Yiu Kam-shing opened the scoring after a cautious start to the half before Jamaica’s Mason Caton-Brown responded with his own.

Captain Max Woodward showed trademark craftiness to evade a high tackle and score Hong Kong’s second, putting them in control of the match.
Tiring Jamaica struggled to keep up in the Monaco heat – they had fallen to favourites France 40-0 earlier in the day – as Alex McQueen finished a superbly worked try at the half-time buzzer.

Veteran McQueen had picked up a loose ball to start a counter, which included an over-the-head pass from Russell Webb to make it 17-5.
