Hong Kong’s star swimmer Siobhan Haughey did exactly what she needed to in her opening hit-out of these delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The 23-year-old, appearing at her second Olympics, took to the Tokyo Aquatics Centre pool with the task of finishing among the 16 fastest swimmers across the four 200m freestyle heats and she did just that.

Haughey has been mentioned as a medal hope by many, including the chef de mission of the Hong Kong delegation, Pui Kwan-kay.

Her reputation has only grown since Rio, with strong showings at the Asian Games, in the NCAA with the University of Michigan and a stand-out second season in the International Swimming League last year with Energy Standard.

Haughey, sporting a white cap adorned with the Bauhinia, cruised into the semis with ease.
