Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi-kem is into the fourth round of the women’s singles table tennis in Tokyo after beating Shin Yu-bin 4-2.

The world No 14 and Olympic eighth seed held off the challenge of the South Korean teenager at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Despite being world No 94, Shin has long been tipped to go to the very top, having become the youngest winner of an International Table Tennis Federation mixed doubles title at 15.

The question for many in table tennis was how far could she go at her debut Olympics? Doo had the answer, ending the 17-year-old’s Games in round three.
