Siobhan Haughey made history with Hong Kong’s first ever Olympic medal in swimming after taking silver in the women’s 200m freestyle final at the Tokyo 2020 Games on Wednesday morning.

The 23-year-old Haughey finished 0.42 seconds behind Australia’s golden girl Ariarne Titmus, with a time of 1:53.92 – a new Asian record, which knocked almost a second off her personal best.

Penny Oleksiak won bronze with a time of 1:54.70 to become Canada’s all-time most decorated Summer Olympian with six medals.

“I’m really happy and really excited. I worked hard for this for the last five years – I made the semi-finals five years ago [at the Rio 2016 Games],” Haughey said.
