It was the start of the second week in Japan, and all eyes were on the table tennis on Sunday, with both men's and women's teams in action.

Unfortunately, in the fencing, the men's foil lost to Russia in the quarter-finals. Cheung Ka-long had already won gold, but he couldn't rescue the team when they fell behind.

Hong Kong got off to a flying start in the women’s table tennis team event, defeating Brazil 3-1 in the round of 16 to set up a quarter-final clash against Romania tomorrow. Lee Ho-ching and Minnie Soo Wai-yam drew the first blood with a 3-0 win in the doubles, before top player Doo Hoi-kem added to the tally to lead 2-0. Lee then lost in her tie, but Doo sealed the victory with her second win.

Chinese sprinter Su Bingtian made history after storming into the men's 100m final, but a poor start saw him finish sixth, and Italy's Marcell Jacobs won gold, setting a new European record.
