Veteran batsman Nizakat Khan has been named as the new Hong Kong cricket captain after Aizaz Khan was removed because of a case involving alleged insurance fraud.

The 29-year-old Nizakat is a swashbuckling batsman who brings plenty of international experience to the Hong Kong team, having made his mark in a number of high-profile tournaments overseas.

“Nizakat is incredibly well respected both on and off the field. We have every confidence in his ability to lead this side as we look ahead to an exciting period of cricket coming up in 2021 and 2022,” said Cricket Hong Kong (CHK) general manager – high performance Mark Farmer.

Aizaz is a contracted player with CHK, which is expected to continuing supporting the player while he is on trial. The governing body feels the stress he is undergoing means he would not be in the right frame of mind to continue as captain. Nizakat has represented Hong Kong since 2011 in T20 and 50-over internationals, as well as taking part in several overseas T20 events around the world, including Australia and Canada.
