Hong Kong Sports Institute on Tuesday played host to John Lee Ka-chiu, the city’s leader, with Lee using his first visit since taking office in July to pledge support for the athletes based there.
Accompanied by sports officials, the Hong Kong chief executive met a number of the city’s leading elite, junior and disabled athletes. He listened to their opinions on the development of sport in Hong Kong and praised their achievements.
Tennis player Coleman Wong Chak-lam and cyclist Sarah Lee Wai-sze were among those on hand as the leader toured the facilities.
John Lee said in a post on Facebook that the institute was “a place full of the hard work and sweat of Hong Kong athletes”.

“The [Hong Kong government] attaches great importance to sports development, and in addition to financial support for elite athletes, it also fully promotes and nurtures young athletes and disabled athletes,” Lee’s post said.
