Indonesia Masters: Angus Ng Ka-long’s winning run snapped in semi-finals
- Hong Kong badminton star squanders a one-set lead to bow out in Jakarta after a breathtaking 83-minute encounter
- World No 23 Indonesian Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo also defeated Ng in the Malaysia Masters final last July

Hong Kong badminton star Angus Ng Ka-long’s winning run at the Indonesia Masters came to an end on Saturday night.
The world No 18 – who won his first three matches of 2023 this week to set up a semi-final clash with home hero Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo – squandered a one-set lead to lose 21-17, 25-27, 20-22 in Jakarta.
The first set was a close encounter with the lead often changing hands, but it was the resilient Ng who got the better of the fast rising Indonesian – who was still ranked outside the top 50 last May.
Trailing 17-16, the 28-year-old Ng won five points on the trot to stun the fans’ favourite.
Ng – who last reached the final four on tour last July at the Malaysia Masters – opened the second set with a 5-0 run.

His advantage would grow to 11-3 and the Hongkonger – who defeated Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama 21-16, 21-10 in the previous round – looked to be in complete control.
