Hong Kong football head coach Jorn Andersen has been handed a two-year contract extension, ending uncertainty over his future before his present deal expires next month.
The agreement allows the Hong Kong Football Association to retain Andersen’s services for the AFC Asian Cup in Qatar early next year. Under the Norwegian, Hong Kong have qualified for the finals for the first time since 1968.
Speaking about the decision to stay on, Andersen, who was appointed in December 2021 t0 succeed Mixu Paatelainen, said he was confident in his team’s continued progress.
“I see improvement in the Hong Kong team over the past year-and-a-half, which shows that we are on the right track,” Andersen said.

“I hope to build up a good team for the AFC Asian Cup finals and also achieve good results in the upcoming new round of World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers. We have a lot of interesting tasks ahead and I have confidence that the team will do well.”
Six months after taking over, Andersen last year led Hong Kong to the continental finals through the qualifying tournament in India.
