There was no stopping Siobhan Haughey as the Hongkonger eased to victories in the 50 and 200 metres freestyle on the second day of the Mare Nostrum Swim Tour in Barcelona.
Haughey’s results completed a clean sweep of the three events she entered in the tour’s second of three legs, and indeed a perfect record against her rival Marrit Steenbergen of the Netherlands.
First, the 25-year-old got the job done in the splash-and-dash, touching the wall in 24.67 seconds.

Steenbergen, 23, touched in 24.86, and Olympic finalist Anna Hopkin of Britain rounded out the top three in 24.96, with Australia’s Cate Campbell just 0.01 seconds behind her.

In last weekend’s first leg in France, Haughey had smashed the Hong Kong 50m freestyle record with her time of 24.56 to meet the “A” qualifying standard for next year’s Paris Olympics. Her effort on Thursday was only 0.11 slower than that previous outing.
