Hong Kong’s triathletes ran away with the mixed-team relay gold at the Asian Under-23 and Junior Championships in Japan on Sunday.
The city’s quartet – Bailee Brown, Jason Ng Tai-long, Charlotte Hall and Robin Elg – dominated right from the start of the race, which required each athlete to complete a 280m swim, 7.2km bike ride, and 2km run before handing over to the next teammate.
Fresh off his win in the U23 men’s event a day earlier, Elg established a minor lead in the opening leg, finishing six seconds ahead of Taiwan’s Pan Tzu-i, whom he beat to gold in Saturday’s race.
Brown took over for the second leg to extend Hong Kong’s lead to 19 seconds over second-placed Japan.

Ng, who took bronze at the U23 men’s event, managed a 15-second lead after the swim, before extending that to a comfortable 45 seconds after the run. He finished the third leg in an event-best 22 minutes and 34 seconds, chopping two seconds off Elg’s time in the first leg.
