At a flag presentation ceremony on Thursday, it was announced the city would be represented by 142 athletes who will take part in 12 events including archery, athletics, badminton, fencing, gymnastics, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, men’s and women’s volleyball and wushu.
Among the delegation, is a fencing squad almost the same as the men’s team foil at the Tokyo Olympics team with Cheung, Ryan Choi Chun-yin and Lawrence Ng Lok-wang all going to Chengdu.
Cheung and Choi are currently in Spain preparing for the World Championships in Milan that begin on Sunday, and missed the ceremony held at The University of Hong Kong.
Fellow fencer Kaylin Hsieh Sin-yan, a member of Hong Kong women’s épée team, is another one to watch after her victory at the 2022 NCAA championships.

Table tennis also features two Tokyo Olympic bronze medal winning team members, Doo Hoi-kem and Minnie Soo Wai-yam. Soo has been struggling with a nerve problem in her right arm and the Games will be her first major competition after resting for five months.
