Asian Games 2023: how to watch in Hong Kong as action gets under way in Hangzhou

  • Make sure you do not miss a moment of the 19th Asiad, as Hong Kong’s sporting heroes go for gold
  • You can watch on TV and mobile, at 36 designated sport centres across the city, and even in shopping malls

The 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games are well under way, with qualification matches and even some competitions starting outright on Tuesday.

Things won’t officially kick off until Saturday night’s 8pm opening ceremony at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, when the torch will be lit for the 19th Asiad.

So if you’re looking to plan the next two and a half weeks around watching Hong Kong’s sporting heroes, here’s how you can get your fix.

On TV and mobile

Hong Kong sports fans will be able to watch free live broadcasts of the Asian Games with i-Cable having been granted the exclusive rights to broadcast the action for the seventh time.

There are three free television channels that will show live broadcasts.

HOY TV will provide continuous coverage of the Asian Games events for 12 hours every day on channel 77, starting at 9am, while channel 76 will show events from 3pm every afternoon.

There will also be highlights of the Games on channel 78, including all of the action involving Hong Kong team members.

The Games will also be available for viewing on the i-Cable mobile app.

Out and about

If you don’t fancy watching from the comfort of your sofa, or sneaking a glance on your desktop monitor at work, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department has set up dozens of Asian Games Live Zones at its sport centres across 18 districts.

The 36 spots will be open from 8pm on September 23 to broadcast the opening ceremony, and then from 8am to 10.30pm between September 24 to October 8 during the rest of the competition.

A spot of shopping

If sports centres aren’t your thing, you can also watch along at several different malls showing live broadcasts across the city.

What better way to watch Hong Kong’s medal hopes than on giant screens at Tuen Mun Town Plaza, Olympian City, Citywalk, and One North?

All four of the shopping malls will take a live feed from HOY TV.
