Organisers of the Cathay / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens say over 65 per cent of capacity has already been filled as the event prepares for the final edition in its long-time home.

Next year’s tournament on April 5 to 7 will be the last at Hong Kong Stadium before it moves to the new Kai Tak Sports Park in 2025, and local governing body Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) hopes to go out with a bang.

As of Wednesday, 26,892 tickets for the three-day, 30-team event had been sold, following the first few days of public ticket sales and a presales period for local rugby club members and other stakeholders.

“We are excited to be launching a new era of the Cathay / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens at what promises to be an iconic stadium in its own right at Kai Tak in 2025, but most importantly we are busy preparing to say farewell to the Hong Kong Stadium in true Hong Kong Sevens style in April 2024,” HKCR chairman Chris Brooke said.

“We are once again overwhelmed and grateful for the support of the local community and fans from around the world in relation to the Sevens, and we are very much looking forward to being able to put up the ‘sold out’ sign outside the stadium for the first time since before the pandemic.”
