Hong Kong sport will not be paralysed by commissioner Sam Wong’s departure, says minister
Heads of city’s top sports bodies say finding a perfect match for the position is difficult as the role had to balance several interests

The secretary of the city’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau says the development of sports in Hong Kong or the completion of the Kai Tak Sports Park will not be paralysed by the sudden departure of Sam Wong Tak-sum, whose resignation was announced on Thursday night.
Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, who had just returning to Hong Kong after a three-day trip to Beijing to report on the progress of preparations of the National Games to the General Administration of Sport of China, declined to say how the next candidate for the vacant position would be identified.
“As of now, the workload would be shared by the two principal assistant secretaries under Wong until September 19, and we will process the follow-up arrangements as soon as possible,” he said.
“Whether it will be via short-term appointments, long-term recruitment or a [direct] appointment, we will implement this matter as soon as possible.
“As for the National Games, we have a coordination office headed by Yeung Tak-keung, so things are progressing smoothly.”

Yeung [Tak-keung] was the Commissioner for Sports before Wong, who was picked as his successor after an open recruitment process.
