Siobhan Haughey has been accelerating her recovery from injury at an altitude camp in Arizona, raising hopes the swimming superstar will lead Hong Kong’s National Games medal charge in November.

A lower back problem had ruled Haughey out of the recent World Championships in Singapore.

Following that setback, the four-time Olympic medallist spent time training in Hawaii alongside fellow Hongkonger Adam Chillingworth.

A source close to Haughey said she and Chillingworth had relocated to Flagstaff on September 7 for a camp lasting until October 4. The National Games swimming competition will be staged in Shenzhen from November 10 to 17.

Haughey, who in Paris last year added Olympic 100 and 200 metres freestyle bronze medals to the pair of silvers she claimed in Tokyo in 2021, returned from a three-month break in April.

Soon after, she told the Post that her focus was on the following month’s Mare Nostrum Swim Tour, the World Championships and “maybe the National Games”.
