Hong Kong’s National Games handball team cheered to end – but appeal for resources
Home side given loud backing at Kai Tak Arena and finish with heads held high despite loss in bronze final

Hong Kong received loud and unwavering backing to the end as their National Games men’s handball medal hopes were ended by Beijing in Monday’s bronze final at Kai Tak Arena.
And their captain and coach called for more resources to capitalise on a rare opportunity for the sport to take off in the city.
Freddie Tse Wing-fai, the Hong Kong captain, said after his side’s 33-25 loss in the bronze-medal match that he had been stunned by the size and intensity of the home support throughout the 10-day tournament.
“This is a good opportunity to develop handball in Hong Kong and to make the playing population bigger,” he said. “I really hope we can get more resources to become more professional and improve the handball industry.

“The only resources now are for the men’s senior team. I hope this can benefit the women’s and junior teams, too.”
