Wong Tsz-to and Tsang Hiu-tung were the first men and women across the 10km finish line, each claiming their third title in this event and securing a sweep for the city at Sunday’s Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon.
Although neither runner beat their times from last year, they said they were satisfied with their performances.
Hong Kong triathlete Wong finished just after 6am, clocking a time of 31 minutes 11 seconds to edge out runner-up Tse Chun-yin at the finish at Victoria Harbour Park.
Wong took a break after competing at the National Games in November, but with the marathon held earlier this year, he said he had only a month to prepare for the race.
“But my goal was to win. The time is acceptable,” Wong, who also won the 10km in 2023, said.

The 27-year-old did not beat last year’s 30:43, when he finished second to mainland runner Liu Aiyan, who did not compete this time.
“I wanted to defend my title last year,” the local runner said, noting that the mainlander had pushed up the pace last year, with this year’s battle mainly among Hongkongers. “Without anyone to chase, I’m satisfied with this time.”
Looking ahead to the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, Wong said the four-yearly event was also his main goal for the year and he hoped to keep improving and fight for a spot for the team.
“My running has been relatively consistent, but my overall triathlon performance still isn’t the most stable,” he said. “My teammates are also very strong, so I want to improve my swimming and cycling results to do better in competition and qualify.”
Runner-up Tse finished 14 seconds slower and moved up from third last year to second and was followed by Hongkonger Yip Tak-long, who was just three seconds behind.
Tsang won the women’s crown for a third straight year, crossing the line 59th overall in 35:35.
The 26-year-old, who said the “feeling is different every year”, wanted to break her time of 35:16, which was a personal best then.
“The first year felt like a dream, last year I really wanted to try and win first place again, and this year I actually wanted to get close to my personal best, because last year was a major breakthrough for me,” she said.
Tsang was 19 seconds slower than last year but pulled away alone in the middle of the race.

“Although the weather was colder than last year, looking back now, it actually felt tougher than last year,” she said. “Also, I had to run alone this year, but I’m still quite satisfied with the time.”
The winner said it was a pity that top local runner Yiu Kit-ching could not compete due to a shin injury.
“Sometimes we train together, but we don’t often race together,” Tsang said. “I actually wanted to try and keep up with her in this race. I hope she recovers soon and we can race again.”
Asked about her Asian Games targets, she said she would stay focused on each race and would concentrate on training for the 5,000m and 10,000m in the coming months.
Hong Kong triathlete Sarah Elise Modiano from France finished second in the women’s race, 1:05 behind, with Australian runner Ashlee Treagus taking the third spot on the podium in 37:22.
This year’s 10km race started from Hong Kong’s Eastern Corridor and had 31,000 participants, the largest field among all categories.
Among them was 70-year-old film star Chow Yun-fat, who completed his 10km in two hours and 23 seconds.
