Laura Wang Xintong has shaved nearly three seconds off Siobhan Haughey’s 12-year-old Hong Kong 400 metres individual medley short course record, and Lo Tsz-lam has lowered the men’s city best in the same event.

The records were set during the two-day 2025-26 Div. I Age Group Short Course Swimming Competition (Part 3), which concluded on Sunday at Victoria Park Swimming Pool.

Wang finished first in the girls’ 15-17 400m medley in a time of 4:39.48, lowering her own youth record of 4:42.99 by 3.51 seconds.

The 17-year-old also took 2.84 seconds off the old 4:42:32 Hong Kong mark established by four-time Olympic medallist Haughey in February 2014.

“Something I have dreamed about for 2 years,” Wang wrote on her social media the day after the race.

“I have doubted about myself, questioned everything that I have done, wondering if I should keep continuing or it is just a dream. But I did it,” she shared.
