ONE Championship’s Mikey Musumeci is backing ‘strong’ Mark Zuckerberg to beat Elon Musk after coaching Meta CEO

  • ONE’s flyweight submission grappling champion thinks Zuckerberg will submit his Twitter counterpart if they fight
  • Musumeci hoping to convince ‘super cool’ Zuckerberg to corner him the next time he competes in the United States

It’s the MMA (not so) super fight everyone is itching to see – billionaire tech giants Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk squaring off in the cage.

UFC president Dana White is keen to stage the fight, and said he already has a date in mind for an extravaganza he thinks could smash pay-per-view records and bring in US$1 billion.

But after recently training with Zuckerberg, ONE Championship flyweight submission grappling champ Mikey Musumeci has backed the Meta CEO and chairman to submit his rival if they eventually square off.

“Mark’s actually super cool,” Musumeci told the Post in Bangkok, where he will corner his sister Tammi for her match against Amanda Alequin on Saturday.

“I got a lot of hate for training with him but he’s awesome – I’m getting hate, everyone is talking s*** to me on his platforms. If you’re gonna talk s***, then don’t use his platforms.

“He’s super nice and cool with me. We trained for three or four hours and just hung out and had lunch and dinner. A super cool, good dude. He’s hardworking and strong.

“We’re around the same size and he’s very strong for his size. I see him doing super well in this Elon Musk fight, I think he can freaking sub him, I’m Team Mark.”

While Musumeci said he did not know if he would be at the fight, should it ever take place, he would be “rooting for [Zuckerberg] regardless”.

Zuckerberg, an avid MMA fan who has recently competed at jiu-jitsu competitions, was at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for last weekend’s UFC 290 event, and he has been getting some training in with champions Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski this week.

“He was going to come to my fight in the US [in Denver on May 5],”Musumeci added. “I was convincing him to come, but he just had a kid. Hopefully the next US card I’ll be on it and I can convince to come and be in my corner.”

Musumeci’s next fight appears to be set for either Singapore or Doha, however, in a grappling super-fight with legendary flyweight MMA champion Demetrious Johnson.

“Hopefully in September I can do the match with ‘Mighty Mouse’ [Johnson], that would be awesome,” 27-year-old Musumeci said. “I live in Singapore so it would be super easy for me. I think that will make jiu jitsu explode, that match.

“I love Qatar also, I spent some time there as well. But any headline card I would just be blessed with this opportunity.”

ONE’s strawweight MMA champion, Jarred Brooks, is also keen on tackling Musumeci and told the Post last week he would dedicate six months of training for the chance to win his fellow American’s belt.

“I just want to get out there and have this match with Mighty Mouse – the sooner, the better it would be for me,” Musumeci added when told of Brooks’ interest.

“I just want to roll with the guy, and anyone else who wants to roll with me I’m down. Literally any Friday night [Brooks] wants to compete with me, I’m down. We can do it this Friday, next Friday, any month.”
