While Angela “Unstoppable” Lee is back home in Hawaii recouping and preparing for her return to the cage, the Chinese fighter who inflicted the first ever loss on the star of Asian MMA is busy adding to her own arsenal. And she has her sights set on claiming Lee’s One Championship world atomweight title.

“I am always waiting for the chance to challenge Angela, especially now in her weight class,” Xiong “The Panda” Jingnan told the Post.

“It’s definitely happening. I don’t mind going down a weight class as long as I can have this fight. Every athlete should challenge themselves and I need atomweight to challenge myself. That’s how you improve, that’s how you grow.”

Xiong revealed she had broken a thumb in the second round of her One world strawweight title defence against Lee in Tokyo in March, a remarkable revelation given the increased power she seemed to find in her punches the longer the bout went on. “It didn’t bother me,” was Xiong’s curt response to our concern.

It’s the second time she’s had a problem in a second round and fought on through the pain, as Xiong broke her hand in the second before regrouping to win the title against Singapore’s Tiffany Teo (8-1) in January 2018.
