UFC 242: Dana White confirms Tony Ferguson next in line for title shot after Khabib vs Poirier

Tony Ferguson certainly seems to think he’s getting the next crack at the UFC lightweight title. And now Dana White has confirmed it.

The UFC president said “El Cucuy” will face the winner of Saturday night’s main event between Khabib Nurmagomedov and interim champion Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi.

“Tony Ferguson is next in line,” White told BT Sport’s Dan Hardy in the United Arab Emirates.

The Mexican-American (26-5) is on a 12-fight win streak but was stripped of his interim lightweight title after a freak knee injury ruled him out of a highly anticipated fight against Khabib last April, just days before the event.

“Everybody thinks Tony Ferguson got screwed over, or whatever it might be,” White added. “Tony Ferguson has had opportunities to step up and take fights that he turned down.
