UFC: Dustin Poirier dares Colby Covington to show up at American Top Team gym

  • ‘The Diamond’ says he will be at their Florida training facility from October 10-12
  • ‘If Colby wants to go to the gym any one of those days, I got something for him … you’ll read about it’

Dustin Poirier has dared Colby Covington to head to the American Top Team gym in Florida next month as their feud continues.

“The Diamond” called the former UFC interim welterweight champion a “sell out” for trash talking their teammate Jorge Masvidal – who claims Covington did not pay their coach after his last fight.

That prompted Covington to hit back, saying Poirier’s comments were “childish” and “distasteful”, and saying Poirier was only angry because he picked Khabib Nurmagomedov to beat him at UFC 242.

When asked how he planned to deal with Covington, Poirier told Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on ESPN: “I’ll show you, you’ll read about it.”

The American was calling into Helwani’s show on a road trip with his family in Louisiana, but he said was on his way back to Florida.

“I’m not on Twitter right now … I’ll be back at American Top Team around October 10. I’m gonna train there a few days then drive up to Tampa for the event,” Poirier said, in reference to UFC Fight Night 161 on October 13.

“I’ll be there the 10th through the 12th – if Colby wants to go to the gym any one of those days, I got something for him. Man, I really don’t wanna sit here and talk negative about anybody. If I see him in person you’ll read about it.”

Poirier said he does not like to speak negative about people – and joked Helwani was bringing him “back to the dark side”.

“I try my best to find the good in people and stay positive,” he added. “I’m not trying to talk trash about people. Even if I dislike you, I’ll tell you to your face. I don’t go online and talk trash any more.”
