Angela Lee got her vengeance on Xiong Jingnan.
Months removed from her TKO loss to “The Panda”, the Singaporean-American evened the score with a dramatic, fifth-round submission finish.
The pair met in the high-stakes main event of One: Century Part 1, which marked One Championship’s debut on US television network TNT, on Sunday afternoon in Tokyo, Japan. While it was for Xiong’s strawweight title when they first met in March, it was Lee’s atomweight title hanging in the balance this time around.
“It feels like a dream,” Lee told commentator Mitch Chilson in her post-fight interview, fighting back tears of joy.


Lee was aggressive early, but Xiong was ready for her, firing back with crackling punching combinations.
Undeterred, Lee continued to press forward through rounds one and two, landing enough of her own shots to cause some swelling around Xiong’s eye. Toward the end of the second frame, Lee landed a huge single-leg takedown, controlling her foe from top position till the horn sounded – showing clear signs she was finding her groove.

In the third, Lee pursued the takedown more aggressively. While Xiong thwarted Lee’s first few attempts, a hip-toss eventually sent the action to the canvas. From there, Lee got very busy.
After pelting Xiong’s face with a storm of punches, she deftly climbed into back mount and continued to punish the slimmed-down strawweight champ before closing out the round with a rear-naked choke attempt.
Xiong came out with a sense of urgency in the fourth, landing some thudding impacts on Lee – including a jarring head kick. The pair spent most of the round swapping heavy artillery on the feet.

While Xiong landed the round’s more meaningful shots, Lee was far more aggressive, and even taunted the strawweight champion for back-pedalling.
The stakes were sky high in the fifth, and both women seemed to know it.
After some power shots from Xiong, the pair tied up and spun to the canvas. On the mat, Xiong briefly strafed Lee from top position, but Lee was able to escape and clamber into back mount.

It was from this position that the atomweight champion put a decisive end to the contest, locking up a rear-naked choke and coaxing out the tap with less than 20 seconds left on the clock.
She will leave Tokyo with the One atomweight title in her suitcase.
“Thank you Tokyo; to all of the fans who came out,” she said, still beaming. “I hope you guys are entertained.”
