UFC: Jorge Masvidal open to Ben Askren rematch – ‘get some wins and we can do it’

  • Askren looks to bounce back ‘pretty quickly’ from stunning five-second flying knee KO when he takes on Demian Maia
  • ‘Gamebred’ says he’s willing to run it back down the line, and ‘Funky’ responds, ‘I see you are appreciating me making you famous’

Jorge Masvidal is willing to run it back with Ben Askren – but only on one “super necessary” condition.

“Gamebred” knocked Askren out in five seconds at UFC 239 in July with a stunning flying knee, a finish which has propelled him to superstardom and a main event at Madison Square Garden against Nate Diaz for the “BMF” belt.

The former Olympian fights Demian Maia at UFC Singapore on October 26, but is already thinking further down the road.

“I wanted to come back to see if I was the best in the world,” Askren told MMA Fighting. “In that five seconds, we didn’t find that out. We found out Jorge has a fantastic knee and that I’m not invincible, but we didn’t find much else out.

“I think I can bounce back from that pretty quickly and hope that it happens.”

“That would be really nice,” Askren said about a Masvidal rematch. “We’ll see where the division goes and where I’ll be, but I hope so.”

Masvidal responded to Askren’s comments on Twitter. “Get some wins and we can do it #supernecessary,” he wrote.

“I see you are appreciating me making you famous,” Askren responded in turn on social media. “You’re welcome sucka.”
