Dana White was right: the UFC’s inaugural“badass [expletive]” belt – BMF for short – has truly taken on a life of its own. Jorge Masvidal (34-13) and Nate Diaz (20-11) have leapfrogged their way to the main event of an already stacked UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden on November 2 and, whether you agree with the concept of this gimmick belt or not, it has become one of the most anticipated fights of 2019.

The fight has generated so much hype that UFC president White, who originally stressed this was a “one-and done”, has already slightly changed his tune in recent interviews.

“Right here, right now, no – I don’t think that belt would be defended … it’s a fun fight,” he said with a smile at the UFC on ESPN 6 post-fight presser on Saturday.

But the attention garnered, along with WWE and Hollywood royalty Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirming he will strap the belt around the winner’s waist, is too big to ignore.

The yet-to-be-revealed belt’s hefty US$50,000 price tag and Conor McGregor’s claim he “designed” it have only further pushed the hype along.
